Jamestown Democrats

Principles

“The moral test of a government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy, and the disabled.” - Hubert Humphrey

As Democrats we believe in equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or ethnic background.

We believe in rewarding honest, hard work with a living wage and a fair tax system.

We support a woman’s right to choose what’s best for her health and her family. No government or religion should interfere with a woman’s reproductive rights.

We fight for quality education for all children so they may reach their full potential. That means schools that are safe and free from violence and bullying.

We believe healthcare is a right, and not a privilege, for each and every one of us.

We work to strengthen our economy in ways that benefit everyone, not just the wealthiest among us.

We support government programs that help society’s most vulnerable—the elderly, poor, children, and developmentally disabled.

We believe in the separation of Church and State; we do not endorse or favor one religion above another. The First Amendment guarantees all Americans the freedom of religion and the freedom from religion.

We believe in protecting our environment and preserving our planet so our children and future generations will have a sustaining ecosystem. Clean, renewable energy is essential for a future economy and clean environment.

We believe in a voting system that is accessible and fair for everyone and ensures that every vote counts.

We believe in safe homes, safe communities and a strong national defense.
